The Brief and Wondorous Life of Oscar Wao

The Brief and Wondorous Life of Oscar Woa by Junot Diaz, is a gripping story of a man whos love life is cursed. Love is a beautiful thing but its also painful. Junot Diaz does a great job at dipicting this theory through her main character, Oscar Wao.
In the earlier years of Oscars life he was great with women. He had " a way with words" as said in the book. But as he got older he became more "nerdier" and more like an outkast. So just like your typical nerd story he wants to love and be loved in return. The women he goes for are usually out of his league. Now remeber earlier I said he has a cursed love life? Well the curse is called fuku and has plagued Oscar ENTIRE family. So the very first girl Oscar talked to in awhile he fell in love with. Her name was Ana. In the passage he admitted it saying I'm totally and irrevocably in love with Ana". Ultimately he would get his heart broken by her because she went back to her abusive boyfriend. You would think he learned his lesson. Not Oscar. He ends going to the prestigous Rutgers University were he falls in love again. Naturally she rejected him and this time the pain cuts deep. So deep that Oscar says "It's the end of hope". After saying this he proceeds in an attempt to kill himself by jumping off the bridge luckily he didnt kill himself just yet. The author added this part to show how love will make you do crazy things. That it embodies your mind so much that you can't live without it. Oscars failure with love ultimately progressed the story because even though he kept getting his heart broken he never gave up. And who doesnt like persistence?
Oscar ended up getting killed for another girl he fell in love with in the Dominican Republic. Although he was killed he sent a letter to his sister saying that he died happy. He had found love before he died and thats all any human can hop for. All in all Junot Diaz wrote a very passionate thriller that I wouldn't mind reading again. YOu learn that love is worth fighting for and anyone can find it.
